GARNETT — A German author’s quest to write his father’s biography let him to a family in Garnett. Peter Eisenbach of Germany has been researching the life of his father Hans. Hans Eisenbach was a member of the German air force but was pulled into the German army for the Battle of the Bulge. His unit surrendered and he was put in a U.S. Army prisoner of war camp in Bavaria. He was released after two months. An army captain signed his papers freeing him. The captain was Earl Kueser of Garnett. Ironically, Hans Eisenbach’s father – Peter Eisenbach’s grandfather – was also drafted at the age of 41 and was also captured. He died in his POW camp of starvation. Using Kansas genealogical information, Peter Eisenbach found Kueser’s daughter Betty Kueser. They continue to exchange information.
