OTTAWA — If you don’t like snow, it’s going to be a fright Christmas. Because the center of a powerful winter storm system has moved east, National Weather Service forecaster Chad Omitt said the worst of the storm will hit Franklin County and east-central Kansas later today. “This storm is going to be a whopper,” he said. When temperatures fall as the storm moves through, rain will change to snow and the snow could reach six inches in east-central Kansas, with some areas reaching 10 inches. The snow will be driven by winds of 25 to 35 miles an hour, with gusts of 45, sending wind chills below zero, he said. The worst of the storm and heaviest winds will likely hit after dark tonight and go through Friday afternoon, he said.
