COLONY — The Kansas Highway Patrol handled two injury accidents on U.S. 169 north of Colony in Anderson County after Christmas.  Troopers said 43-year-old Mary Mayfield, Belton, Mo., was driving north on U.S. 169 when she lost control of her car and it spun and was hit by a car driven by Millicent Pepion, 24, of Mesa, Ariz., on Saturday.  Troopers say Pepion and her passenger, Monique Be La Rosa, 22, Lawrence, were taken to Anderson County Hospital in Garnett.  Mayfield and another passenger in Pepion’s car weren’t injured.  Troopers said that Sunday afternoon, 73-year-old Barney Smith Jr., 73 Iola, was driving south on U.S. 169 when he lost control of his pickup and it slid into a ditch and rolled over several times.  Troopers say Smith was taken to Allen County Hospital, Iola.  A passenger, Rosemary Smith, 69, Iola, was taken to Overland Park Regional Hospital.  Troopers said he was wearing a safety restraint but she wasn’t.
