LAWRENCE – So, you thought the villainous velociraptors of the “Jurassic Park” movies were scary. Be glad you haven’t met its first cousin sinornithosaurus. It was small. But it had a bad attitude and it had a bad bite. Kansas University professor Larry Martin said it was a shock to his team of KU and Chinese scientists to discover that besides having razor-sharp teeth, the turkey-sized meanie had another nasty surprise – it was venomous. It’s mouth was built almost like a venomous snake or lizard and it’s skull structure included a place for a poison sac. Martin believes the bird-like dinosaur terrorized other dinosaurs some 128 million years ago in China. The discovery could shake up other dinosaur experts, he said. His team is studying another micro-raptor to see if it also had a venomous bite.
