GARNETT — After five years of study, a Lenexa company is close to building a commercial wind farm in southern Anderson County. Tradewind Energy project manager Duane Enger said his company has offered to sell power from the wind farm to Kansas City Power & Light. Enger said KCP&L will decide this spring whether to buy the wind-powered electricity. If KCP&L agrees to buy, Tradewind will begin building the Deer Creek wind farm, he said. Anderson County zoning director Tom Young said the county is in the process of writing regulations for commercial wind farms. Young said the county’s rules are based on regulations from two other counties with wind farms. The Deer Creek wind farm will have 50 to 70 turbines north of Lone Elm.
