OTTAWA — Despite $300 million dollars in shortages in the state budget, Rep. Bill Feuerborn, D-Garnett, said that across-the-board cuts Aren’t the answer. He discussed budget options at Saturday’s legislative coffee. Public safety would need to be cut 10 percent and education cut 11 percent in order for such cuts to balance the budget, he said. Feuerborn said the amount of money needed along with the number of Kansans who rely on government services made him come to the conclusion that cutting such a big amount of money from the state’s budget simply isn’t a practical possibility. There were some areas that cuts could be made in to help ease the deficit, however, he said. That includes the $5 million a year the state pays to pay for operations at the Wichita Mid-Continent Airport, he said.
