OTTAWA — Like the city of Ottawa, Franklin County is trying how to figure out what to do about the new fad of using shipping containers as back-yard storage. The county has had such containers for several years, and county planner Larry Walrod said officials have had some difficulty in deciding how to deal with them. The containers really don’t fit any of the county’s descriptions and the appraiser’s office has had difficulty figuring out how they apply under tax rules, Walrod said. He said the question of containers may be addressed as the county works on a new code for manufactured homes this year.
