KANSAS CITY — Kansas City Power & Light Company has ended its request that customers conserve energy on an emergency basis. The utility also thanks its customers for heeding the request and cutting back. KCP&L asked customers to cut back after everyone plugged in portable electric heaters to fight extreme cold weather last week. To keep up, all 11 of KCP&L’s coal-fired power plants and the Wolf Creek nuclear plant were running at full production for 10 consecutive days to meet the record winter demand. The utility is building a new coal-fired power plant near Weston, Mo., and it said it will help meet customer demand for the next several years.
