TOPEKA — The Shawnee County election commissioner said Tuesday she’s a candidate for Kansas Secretary of State. Elizabeth “Libby” Ensley is Republican who will join two conservative Republicans who seek the nomination. Ensley has been Shawnee County’s election commissioner for 18 years. Previously, she worked in the Kansas Secretary of State’s office. Conservatives Kris Kobach, Johnson County, and J.R. Claeys, Salina, also seek the nomination. Two Democrats, Chris Biggs and Chris Steineger, have expressed interest in the position. Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh said he won’t seek re-election and dropped out of the race for governor.
