GARNETT — An engineer working for the city of Garnett is going over the bids for a new city water line project. The low bid was $400,000 less than the engineer’s estimate for the project. The city will use $1.1 million in federal economic stimulus money to build a new water line and pumping station between the Cedar Creek Reservoir and the Crystal Lake water plant. City manager Joyce Martin told the Anderson County Review that the city received nine bids to do the project. Martin said she expects ask for a special city commission meeting to award the winning bid once they’re reviewed. The new water line will add to the city’s water capacity and take care of taste and smell problems with the city’s water.
