TOPEKA — The Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service said Kansas wheat and corn reserves are at record levels. Last month, stored wheat stocks were 45 percent higher than those stocks in December 2008. Corn stocks were up 12 percent from the year before. Milo stocks were down 9 percent. Soybean stocks were down 4 percent. However, reserves stored by Kansas farmers are up 36 percent from the year before.
The statistics service says harvests for most cash grains were at or near record levels in 2009. However, the winter wheat planted is less than last year’s acreage. The wheat planted in east central Kansas is down sharply and is slightly more than half of what was planted last year.
