OTTAWA — The Ottawa school board has been looking at ‘pay to play’ as one way to meet state school funding cuts. In pay to play, students pay fees to take part in sports and other extracurricular activities. Superintendent Dean Katt said the school board will likely punt. So many students in the middle and high schools qualify for free and reduced-rate school lunches and would need scholarships to take part in activities, there wouldn’t much in the way of savings, he said.
