TOPEKA — A House panel is looking at a bill that would allow doctors to apologize for medical mistakes without having that apology used against them in court. Kansas Information Network reports even trial attorneys say that families who have been affected by medical mistakes want to hear apologies from the doctors and that often affects the suit. The bill would allow a judge the discretion to immunize doctors from any apologies they make to families. if they apologize. Several other states have similar laws. The Kansas Medical Society said the bill doesn’t go far enough in shielding doctors.
