OTTAWA — Eight years after a pipeline leaked 84,000 gallons of gasoline in a field at Labette and Eisenhower roads, ConocoPhillips has started cleaning it up. Owner Phil Gibson said he’s surprised it’s taken so long to begin the cleanup. Working in cooperation with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, ConocoPhillips will truck contaminated soil to Topeka for testing and disposal and replace it with other soil. Gibson said he hopes the land can be farmed after the cleanup.
