OTTAWA — Eisenhower Elementary School celebrated its 40th birthday Monday by creating the Albert Keefer Community Service Award named after Eisenhower’s long-time principal — and giving the first award to Keefer. Keefer, who spent 26 years at Eisenhower, said he’s honored and overwhelmed by the award. He said he’s enjoyed coming back to tutor students two times a week for the last several years. The celebration also included birthday cake and music by the Ottawa High School jazz band.
Student Ernie Ingram said he thought it was a great day.
