TOPEKA — Kansas and 35 other states have signed a $22 million settlement with Sprint. State Treasurer Dennis McKinney said thousands of people will be able to claim their rebate checks soon. The lawsuit involved uncashed rebate checks and whether they were subject to Kansas’s unclaimed property laws. The lawsuit also clarified who reports unclaimed money to the state, he said. The phone service was sold through retailers through the marketing company Young America. McKinney said Sprint agreed to report the unclaimed money annually.
