TOPEKA — It was Turnaround Week, the major half-way deadline, last week in the legislature and state Rep. Tony Brown, D-Baldwin City, said he hopes the house leaders will turn themselves around beginning this week. Brown said he’s been frustrated because of the present House leadership, dominated by Republicans, the House of Representatives has done little except posture, take days off and play “gotcha,” scheduling several votes on hot-button social issues such as abortion and marriage that have had little purpose other than to create campaign issues for November, a process Brown calls “postcard votes.” On the other hand, the Senate has tackled several significant issues. Once the House deals with those issues from the Senate, Brown hopes more work will get done.
