POMONA — Polls are open at Pomona City Hall through 7 tonight. The primary election will knock one candidate out of a crowded field for three city council seats. The election is occurring in the shadow of a long-running battle between Mayor Joanne Hancock and the city council. County clerk Shari Perry said she wants to avoid the expense of preparing the county’s electronic vote-counter, so the vote count will done by hand at her office tonight. Although the hand-count might take relatively longer, because there are slightly more than 500 Pomona residents eligible to vote, the ballots shouldn’t take too long to count, she said.
