LeLOUP — A crash between an SUV and a train near LeLoup Friday afternoon wasn’t an accident, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department said. Lt. Jeff Curry said the crash that injured Cristina Madl, 43, Baldwin City, is no longer being investigated as an accident. It appears that she deliberately drove into the path of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe train at the crossing in the 4300 block of Shawnee Road, he said.
She was taken by helicopter to the University of Kansas Medical Center for life-threatening injuries. The hospital wouldn’t say if Madl was at the hospital.
