OTTAWA — After one more discussion Monday night, the Ottawa school board decided not to participate in what is called ‘pay to play’. Dean Katt, school superintendent, said there are several considerations involved in the idea, and the school board had decided they’re not worth the small amount of money that it would raise. The board has been looking at several ways to cut costs and raise additional revenue because of sharp cuts in state funding for public education. In pay to play, students pay fees to take part in sports and other extracurricular activities. Some schools have adopted it because of the state school-aid reductions.
