GARNETT — The city of Garnett is still trying to work out what to do with the National Guard armory. As a budget-cutting measure, the state closed the armory and will turn it over to the city. At a recent public hearing, some residents urged the city to use the armory as a recreation center. City manager Joyce Martin said she plans to have the city parks department use the north motor pool area of the armory. It’s also likely that Biddy Basketball and volleyball programs and senior citizen aerobics classes will be moved into the armory. The city has also received requests to rent it out for dinners, she said. Martin said she’s in the process of creating a community foundation for donations for the facility.
