TOPEKA — A special report in April’s Reader’s Digest rates Kansas highways as the best in the nation. The Reader’s Digest study included safety statistics, pavement and bridge condition, and urban congestion in coming up with the ratings. Gov. Mark Parkinson said the report is great news for Kansas and helps attract businesses and creates jobs. However, Parkinson noted he’s had to cut highway maintenance to cover a state funding gap and would likely jeopardize the state’s ranking in the future.
