PAOLA–The Miami County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a farm in Miami County where a pile of 18 dead horses are covered with hay. Undersheriff Mark Schmidt says his department has paid 5 visits to the farm because of complaints from neighbors of animal cruelty. Schmidt says he doesn’t know what killed the horses, but they probably didn’t get enough food over the winter. He says the top priority is to get humane treatment for the horses still alive.
