KINCAID — The city of Kincaid is now the proud owner of the Kincaid school building. After being prodded by a community group, several discussions and a road trip to the small city of Stark, Kincaid city officials decided to accept the school after its out-of-state owner offered to give it to the city in exchange for a tax write-off. Kincaid city clerk Lisa Vencel told the Anderson County Review that the city was reluctant to take the building because of the cost of insurance and operations. After visiting Stark, which is smaller than Kincaid but successfully took over an abandoned school building, the Kincaid City Council accepted the Kincaid school. The city offices and the senior nutrition center will be moved into the school and hopes to open a library.  Anne Donaldson, a member of the community group, said there are also plans to use the school for club meetings and for an exercise program. The city has a good chance of picking up a federal grant to help with some of the costs, she said.
