GARNETT — Garnett-area establishments are gearing up for the statewide smoking ban, which goes into effect July 1. Tradewinds Bar & Grill owner Donna Carr told the Anderson County Review she still has questions about the law. The ban will restrict smoking in restaurants, bars, offices, taxis and limos, restrooms, lobbies and at access points to public buildings. The law specifically exempts state-owned casinos, outdoor restaurant patios, private homes, designated smoking areas in adult care homes and long-term care units, and tobacco shops. Up to 20 percent of rooms in a hotel or motel may also be designated for smoking guests. Carr said her facility has no place for a patio. Pat McCullough said her business, which is called Racers, is ahead of the game because it has had the only nonsmoking bar in Garnett since its opening. She said she already has a smokers’ patio.
