WASHINGTON — Ruiz Foods of Texas is recalling nearly 58 tons of ready-to-eat Ranchero Beef & Cheese Tornadoes. The Food and Drug Administration said the recalled Tornadoes contain a batch of hydrolyzed vegetable protein found to have been contaminated with salmonella. The FDA said the recalled items were in eight-ounce boxes of three tornadoes and were sold at several grocery stores in the Ottawa area. The recalled Tornadoes represent a serious health risk, the FDA said. Contaminated items will have “Est. 17523A” and code numbers “09357,” “10023,” “10028,” “10030,” “10031,” or “10032” printed on the side panels The recalled Tornadoes were produced Dec. 23, 2009; Jan. 23, 2010; Jan. 28, 2010; Jan. 30, 2010; Jan. 31, 2010; and Feb. 1, 2010.
