WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts and Congressman Todd Tiahrt said today they weren’t surprised by the World Trade Organization’s final ruling on Airbus and the illegal subsidies the company received from the European Union. The WTO ruled that the EU illegally subsidized the development of the entire family of airbus aircraft. That includes the A330, which is the platform competing for the next U.S. Air Force tanker against Boeing. They say Airbus was trying to underbid on defense contracts by having the EU illegally subsidize their airplane design and production.
