GARNETT — Anderson County District Court employees, along with other court employees across the state, will be placed on non-paid, involuntary leave for four days in upcoming weeks. The first closing will be Friday, April 9. Fourth Judicial District Court administator John Steelman told the Anderson County Review it’s unfortunate that Kansas legislators cut funding to the judicial branch. He said although legislators restored some funding, it wasn’t enough to prevent the four closing days. Because 98 percent of the state judicial budget goes to pay employee salaries, there were very little other cost-saving options other than to furlough court staff, he said. A hiring freeze has been in place in the Fourth Judicial District for more than a year.
