COLONY – At least one area school administrator is breathing a sigh of relief after a Kansas House bill cutting more school aid to smaller districts stalled.
Crest Superintendent Lee Jones told the Anderson County Review that the bill would cost Crest an additional $208,000 off of next year’s budget, a cut Jones said the district couldn’t be able to absorb after all the other cuts that have been made. He said the new cuts might have forced the Crest district to close. Enough citizens from the Crest district and other small districts objected that state House leaders backed down.
