POMONA — It’s election day for Pomona, Garnett, Osawatomie and Paola. Polls are open until 7 tonight. Pomona voters will pick three council members in an election overshadowed by a dispute between the mayor and city council. Candidates include Rick Smith, Richard Adler, Don Lockaby, Mary Whitaker, Jerry Slavins, Walter Cunningham and Rex Hancock. In Garnett, city commissioner Greg Gwin faces challengers Jeneace Brummel and Jan Fagg. There are two contested races for the Osawatomie City Council: Troy Dalton and Lawrence Dickinson in Precinct 1, and Tamara Maichel and Dwight Francis in Precinct 4. John Farley originally had opposition in Precinct 2, but the other candidate on the ballot, Jamie Wilson, told the Osawatomie Journal that because he has a new job, he has dropped out of the race and isn’t a candidate. In Paola, Pete Bell and Mark Minden are seeking the Precinct 4 city council seat.
