APPANOOSE — Work on new wind turbine at Appanoose School started Wednesday. The project is part of a federal and state wind-power program designed to set up wind generators at schools, said KCP&L’s Kelli Hindes. The preliminary work included the pouring of the concrete base and other preparations, she said. The turbine should be erected by the end of the month, she said. Athough the school will get some benefit from generating some of its power by the wind, the school will also receive a computer program that will allow students to track the amount of energy produced and where it’s used, she said. It’s the first school turbine installed through the program in KCP&L’s service area, she said.
