OTTAWA — Now that the new U.S. 59 expressway is open, the state will turn over what is now the Old 59 to the county. Given the state cutbacks in road maintenance, county officials are nervous that the state will turn back the road without making promised repairs to Old 59 before giving it to the county. County public works director Jim Haag says he hasn’t heard that the state plans to stiff the county and that the scheduled maintenance and repairs will be done as planned. However, county adminstrator Lisa Johnson said if the state decides to turn over the road without the repairs, there’s little the county can do.
