TOPEKA–Although no severe storms are expected in the near future, that could change later on. Mary Knapp is the State Climatologist. She says the rest of Spring could be exceptionally stormy. Whenever an active El Nino system is in place, it creates a lot of tropical moisture. When that moisture meets up with a cold front, the consequences can be disastrous. Knapp says the Jet Stream has stayed well to the south, meaning most of the bad weather has also stayed south of us. If it moves to the north, as in our area, it could create bad storms. And she says she’s talking possible F-5 tornadoes.
