OTTAWA — The state revenue estimates are even worse for next year. The state revenue estimating group predicted that state revenues would be $46.4 million less than expected, with a new projected shortfall for the next year and a half of $130.2 million. But state Rep. Tony Brown told Franklin County commissioners today that despite the gloomy news, there are signs of recovery. The estimators said that the main reason for the shortfall is because of transfers — transfers refer to the bookkeeping tricks of pulling money from next year’s receipts to prop up this year’s budget. If money hadn’t been transferred to this year, next year would have seen a slight increase in revenues, he said. He said he hopes that the worst is over. Brown said he doesn’t know what legislators will do to cover the budget gap.
