OTTAWA — Now that spring weather is upon us, and the birds are chirping, Franklin County corn growers have sprung into planting with a fury. After being stalled by the weather and wet fields, area producers have the tractors running flat out, said Franklin County Extension agent Darrin Hibdon said. Many are repairing ruts and ruined terraces, applying fertilizer and planting corn, he said. Some the corn that has been planted is already peeking up through the ground, he said. Corn is one of the major fall cash crops for franklin county farmers.
