KANSAS CITY — Kansas City area builder Jeffrey Miller of Stanley has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for conspiracy to commit bank fraud and money laundering. Miller was convicted in 2008 on one count of conspiracy, one count of money laundering and two counts of criminal contempt in a $5 million mortgage fraud scheme. U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said Miller’s Star Land Development Company operated a conspiracy in which borrowers overstated their income and financial history, manipulated appraisals and overstated the purchase price. Most of the borrowers defaulted. Co-defendant Hallie Irvin of Lenexa was sentenced to two years.
Miller also was ordered to pay $2.67 million.
