OTTAWA — Franklin and Douglas counties are finding that more salt is financially healthy. Franklin County commissioners accepted the low bid from Central Salt for 1,200 tons of road salt Monday. Commissioners said they saved money by working with Douglas County to request salt bids. Public works director Jim Haag said that the county’s new salt shed allowed the county to buy at a time when demand is low and storing it rather than hurriedly placing orders for more salt during a snow storm.
