TOPEKA – Gov. Mark Parkinson signed a law this week that cracks down on human trafficking. The law increases penalties for human trafficking and expands the list of crimes involved in trafficking. Senate Majority Leader Derek Schmidt first proposed the changes. The new law allows courts seize the assets of traffickers, he said. Schmidt said he was prompted by a Kansas City Sar series on human trafficking, especially prostitution rings involving Korean women operating in the Kansas City area. The law takes effect as soon as it’s formally published.
