OTTAWA — The city of Ottawa will form what is called a stormwater utility later this year. Once the utility is established, the city would charge fees to most Ottawans to pay for ways to prevent or reduce the amount of storm water running into area streams. The city’s Casey Sharp said Ottawa must meet federal rules that reduces pollution caused by dirty or contaminated storm water running into streams. The city is looking at what is called a storm water utility. However, she says the city has new planning rules designed to meet the federal rules and should prevent future run-off problems. Sharp talked about the storm water utility on KOFO’s public affairs program “Community Perspective” on Sunday morning.
