TOPEKA — As the Legislature comes back into session without a budget for next year, they’ll meet dueling demonstrators in Topeka this week.  Members of Kansans for Quality Communities were meeting today to urge lawmakers not to make more steep budget cuts.  The group said the newest study by Wichita State shows further budget cuts will hurt the economy and cause more unemployment, as well as severely damage public education and essential public services.  The group also notes that many local chambers of commerce have split from the Kansas Chamber of Commerce and believe tax increases are a better option.  The Kansas chapter of Americans for Prosperity Foundation will also hold a rally in Topeka but on Wednesday.  The group is urging legislative leaders to continuing cutting the state budget and to resist calls for tax increases.  Confirmed speakers Wednesday morning include nationally syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin, political satirist P.J. O’Rourke, and Americans for Prosperity president Tim Phillips.
