TOPEKA — The protestors will be protested Saturday afternoon in Topeka. Several groups plan to rally against Fred Phelps’ gay-hating Westboro Baptist Church Saturday at 2 at the Gage Park Amphitheater in Topeka. Phelps and his church members have made themselves notorious across the nation by picketing the funerals of gays and of servicemen killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. They say the war deaths, natural disasters and terrorist attacks are God’s punishment because the U.S. tolerates homosexuality. Organizer Chris Love said the rally will also collect donations. Those donations will be given to groups picketed by Fred Phelps and Westboro Baptist Church in the name of Phelps and the church. Nate Phelps, son of Fred Phelps and an ex-member of the church, will speak at the rally.
