OTTAWA — Lake Region RC&D has received a grant that will be used to help reduce pollution in the Pottawatomie Creek basin and the upper reaches of the Marais des Cygnes River. The $65,000 federal grant will be combined with other money create a fund of more than $108,000 for a new Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy program to clean up pollution in the streams, said Rick Porter, Lake Region director. The grant is designed to repeat a WRAPS project six years ago, he said. There are three concerns – fecal coliform contamination, selenium and dissolved oxygen, he said. Lake Region will have public hearings seeking suggestions on clean the streams.
