OSAWATOMIE — Commuters tell the Osawatomie Journal that they’re happy the Bull Creek bridge on Old Kansas City Road between Osawatomie and Paola has reopened. While the bridge was being renovated in a more than $2 million project, Libby Wakeman of rural Oawatomie saids she had drive the long way around on U.S.s 169 to get to her job in Paola. More than 5,000 vehicles used the bridge each day and the detour meant traffic backing up on U.S. 169 at the Paola Baptiste Street exit. Miami County engineer Penny Evans said some work will continue under the bridge but it will stay open. And Miami County commissioners decided they’d rather keep the bridge open rather than close it again briefly for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
