OTTAWA — After a long dark cloud regarding school finances, Ottawa school board members got to experience a little bit of silver lining at their meeting Monday night. After a brief public hearing, the board voted to republish its at-risk budget because the district is receiving $83,000 more for its at-risk fund. The district estimated it would have 990 students receiving free lunches this year but ended up with 1,081 students, said Supt. Dean Katt. Because of state funding cuts, the district has seen a reduction in most of its funds and the new money is a welcome addition to the at-risk fund, he said.
