TOPEKA — Kansas Attorney General Steve Six has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to enforce a 2003 court settlement that requires Nebraska to cut the amount of water it takes from the Republican River. Six said Nebraska has ignored the settlement and has failed to take actions necessary to avoid future violations, especially during dry periods. Kansas farmers and communities will needlessly lose out, he said. Last June, an arbitrator ruled that Nebraska wasn’t following the settlement and ordered the state to adopt rules to comply, Six said.
