TOPEKA–In a year of tight budgets….law enforcement in Kansas seems to be doing fairly well. Two bills sponsored by State Senator Derek Schmidt were recently passed by the legislature. One bill provides $650,000 per year to finance a next-generation telecommunications network for Kansas law enforcement agencies. The funding will allow the agencies throughout the state to share a larger range of data, such as digital photos and fingerprints. A second bill will pay for forensics psychologists used by the state to evaluate inmates.
