GARNETT — Garnett city commissioners proclaimed this month as Lyme Disease Awareness Month in Garnett Tuesday night. One Garnett woman said she knows first hand the heartache and frustration the infection can cause. Chrisandrea Barnett told the Anderson County Review she has been suffering from many of the symptoms of Lyme Disease since March 2007. She went from doctor to doctor and heard many diagnoses, including some doctors who accused her of making up the symptoms. In November 2007, a test and a brain scan confirmed she had the tick-based disease. She has been on antibiotics since. Barnett’s husband and two children were also diagnosed with Lyme Disease and began receiving treatment late last year. Barnett has placed green ribbons around Garnett to mark Lyme Disease Awareness Month and is asking volunteers to plant pumpkins to be used in a Lyme fund-raiser in the fall.
