WELLSVILLE — Beginning today and running through June 6th, Wellsville police officers will be aggressively enforcing the new state law that gives police more authority to ticket for seat belt violations. All people in the front seat must be buckled into seat belts and that all persons under the age of 18 must be in safety restraints regardless of where they’re sitting, said Wellsville Police Chief Steve Gillespie said. The law allows officers to pull over anyone they see not buckled up. Previously, they could only issue tickets only if the motorists had committed another traffic violation. About 135 law enforcement agencies, including the Kansas Highway Patrol, will be participating in the “Click it or Ticket” campaign.
