GARNETT–People in Rural Water District Number 1 in Anderson County will have to keep their own water line. Earlier, Garnett City Commissioners had been asked to take over the 6 mile line by Jim Cox, Superintendent for the Water District. Cox said he wants to retire, and since the line purchased its water from Garnett, it made sense that the city should just take over the whole project. Garnett City Manager Joyce Martin said she talked with City Water Superintendent Butch Rocker, who said he was concerned with the city’s ability to extend its chlorinization process throughout an extra 6 miles of service line without having to add pumps or other expensive upgrades. Martin said Rocker also had concerns about the status of the line after having seen how some of the pipeline was replaced when it was repaired.
