OVERLAND PARK — A 60-year-old Abilene man has been charged with bank robbery in federal court. U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said Larry Leonard Rice has been charged with bank robbery in connection with a robbery at a Bank of the West branch located in an Overland Park Hy-Vee grocery store Saturday. A man walked to the bank and displayed what appeared to be gun tucked into waistband and demanded money, Welch said. Rice turned himself in to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday. If convicted, Rice faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.
